Looking for an affordable legal consultation in Barcelona does not mean wanting lower-quality advice. Often, it means something much simpler: you have a problem, you do not yet know whether you need to bring a claim, negotiate, respond to a notice or hire a lawyer for a full procedure and, before spending hundreds of euros, you want to understand where you stand.
If you are reading this, you are probably not looking for “the cheapest lawyer” in the abstract. You want to know how much it costs to get a serious answer before committing to something bigger.
That is a perfectly reasonable question.
How much does it cost to speak to a lawyer in Barcelona? Are there free legal consultations? Is there a difference between initial guidance and a personalised consultation? And how can you know who is really on the other end of the phone or video call?
The short answer is that there is no single official fee for a consultation with a lawyer. Spain’s General Statute of the Legal Profession provides that fees are freely agreed between the client and the professional, subject to professional conduct and competition rules. It also requires information about the professional’s identity, the merits of the matter, the alternatives, and the fees and costs of the work.
That is why comparing price alone can be misleading. You also need to look at how long the consultation lasts, who advises you and what you will get from it.

How much does a consultation with a lawyer in Barcelona cost?
Not all services are directly comparable, but looking at published prices gives an idea of the variety currently available. This is an indicative sample of publicly advertised fees checked on 7 October 2026:
| Published service | Advertised price | Duration | Format / location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claramente Legal – Ouissal Chairi | €49.90 | Up to 45 min | Online or in person in Barcelona |
| Isabel Fernández Abogada | €60 incl. VAT | 40 min | Online or Barcelona |
| LeyApp – immigration lawyer profiles in Barcelona | €56–209 | 60 min | Video or in person, depending on the professional |
| Alcántara Moreno | €90.75 incl. taxes | 45 min | Video call or in person in Igualada |
| Bravo Advocats | €100 Civil/Employment · €150 Criminal | 45 min | L’Hospitalet; in person and, if agreed, phone/video call |
Pricing sources : Isabel Fernández · LeyApp · Alcántara Moreno · Bravo Advocats.
Indicative comparison: services, specialisms, durations and conditions are not identical. Prices may change; always check the current fee before booking.

The sample illustrates an important point: there is no single “normal price”. A first consultation may cost less than €50, €60, around €90–100, or more than €150–200, depending on the professional, specialism, duration and format.
At Claramente Legal, the first consultation currently has a fixed price of €49.90 for up to 45 minutes, online or in person in Barcelona.
Why do some lawyers charge for the first consultation and others do not?
Because a “first consultation” can mean very different things.
In some cases, a free consultation mainly serves as an initial screening: briefly explain the problem, check whether the firm can take it on and prepare a quote.
In others, it is a proper advice session: the lawyer listens to the context, reviews the relevant information, identifies risks, explains the alternatives and answers specific questions.
Neither model is necessarily wrong. What matters is knowing what you are paying for before you start.
Useful question before booking: “Is this appointment intended to analyse my situation and answer my questions, or is it only an initial assessment to quote for another service?” The difference can be important.
Can I get free legal advice in Barcelona or Catalonia?
Yes. Barcelona and Catalonia have public legal guidance services and, for those who meet the requirements, legal aid.
The ICAB’s Legal Guidance and Appropriate Conflict Management Service (SOJ-GAC) is a free public service offering personalised initial guidance and information about the merits of going to court or using alternative dispute resolution methods.
In addition, people who can demonstrate insufficient resources may apply for recognition of their right to legal aid. The Generalitat currently publishes general annual gross income thresholds of €14,400 for one person, €18,000 for family units of two or three members and €21,600 for four or more, with exceptional circumstances that may allow up to five times the IPREM indicator. Assets and other circumstances may also be relevant, so always check the current requirements.
If you meet the conditions or need initial general guidance, the free public route may be entirely suitable.
A private consultation meets a different need: choosing the professional, reserving dedicated time for your situation and being able to continue with the same person if you later need further work.

An affordable consultation should not mean cutting corners
This idea is at the origin of Claramente Legal.
Many people put off a consultation because they imagine that simply sitting down with a lawyer will cost €100, €150 or €200, without even knowing whether their problem really requires any further legal work.
Sometimes, that creates a paradox: to avoid paying for a consultation, someone signs a contract they do not understand, misses a deadline, responds hastily to a communication or allows a small dispute to become much harder to resolve.
Understanding your rights should not be a luxury.
That is why, at Claramente Legal, we have chosen to keep the first consultation at €49.90 for up to 45 minutes. The aim is not to charge little to listen in a hurry, but to prevent the fear of the price from making people postpone asking for legal guidance.
It is not an automated call, an answer generated from a form or five minutes spent deciding how much to charge afterwards.
The consultation is handled directly by Ouissal Chairi, a lawyer registered with the ICAB under no. 49.141, to understand the context, identify the important legal questions and explain the options you can consider.
There is no obligation to instruct her for any further work.
If you later need negotiation, a document drafted, a claim, proceedings or the involvement of another specialist professional, that work is considered separately and quoted in advance.
What should a good first legal consultation give you?
A useful consultation should not simply leave you with more legal vocabulary. It should help you answer at least these questions:
- What is my actual legal problem?
- Is there a deadline I should be concerned about?
- What rights and obligations does each party have?
- Which documents matter?
- What are my options?
- What risks does each option carry?
- Does it make sense to negotiate before bringing a claim?
- Do I need to do something now, or is it better not to act yet?
- If I want to continue, what would the next step be?
Sometimes, the right answer will be to bring a claim. At other times, it will be to negotiate. And, in some cases, a good consultation helps you understand precisely why starting proceedings is not worthwhile.
The General Statute of the Legal Profession itself requires the professional to explain the merits of the matter, seek to discourage unfounded disputes or actions and, where appropriate, recommend alternative routes to better protect the client’s interests.
Sometimes, the most valuable advice is knowing what not to do
One of the ideas we most often repeat at Claramente Legal is that a lawyer is not useful only when you need to go to court.
Many situations can change considerably before reaching that stage.
A landlord who wants to keep an entire deposit. A company demanding an amount that does not seem correct. An arras deposit agreement that must be signed tomorrow. A separation in which nobody knows what the consequences of a decision will be. A communication from the tax authorities. A problem at work. A debt that has gone unpaid for months.
When one party has more information, more resources or is simply used to dealing with these situations, it is easy to feel that negotiations are unequal.
Knowing what the contract actually says, what the law allows, what evidence exists and how to frame a response correctly can help rebalance that position.
It does not mean a lawyer can guarantee an outcome. It means you stop negotiating blindly.
And that can sometimes change the conversation completely.
How can you tell whether an affordable legal consultation is worthwhile?
Before booking, I would check seven things:
1. Do you know who will advise you? Look for the lawyer’s name and make sure you can identify the professional.
2. Is their bar registration number shown? It is a basic sign of transparency when legal services are offered.
3. Is the price clearly published? It is useful to know the cost before starting and what that amount covers.
4. Do you know how long it lasts? A brief assessment call and a 45- or 60-minute consultation are not the same service.
5. Can you really explain your case? A legal consultation needs context. A generic answer rarely helps with a problem that depends on contracts, dates, communications or personal circumstances.
6. Do they explain what happens afterwards? The consultation should not automatically become an instruction to handle proceedings.
7. Is additional work quoted beforehand? If you later need a claim, negotiation or representation, you should be able to know its cost before instructing it.
Price matters. Transparency matters even more.
Online or in-person legal consultation in Barcelona?
Many consultations do not require travelling to an office.
Contracts, communications, administrative decisions, invoices and documents can be prepared beforehand and then discussed by video call or phone.
An online legal consultation can therefore be especially useful if you are outside Barcelona, have a difficult schedule or simply prefer to deal with the issue from home.
At Claramente Legal, we provide online advice from anywhere in Spain and in-person appointments at Carrer de Balmes, 188, Barcelona.
The format changes. The legal judgement should not.
What if I do not know what type of lawyer I need?
That is completely normal.
You do not need to know whether your problem falls precisely within civil, property, employment, tax, family or administrative law before asking for help. You can explain what happened in your own words.
Ouissal is the main point of contact at Claramente Legal and works particularly on housing and property law, family matters, debt recovery, tax and civil matters.
When a situation requires another specialism, Claramente Legal can coordinate with a network of trusted lawyers, procuradores and other professionals to direct the matter to the right profile.
The person seeking advice should not have to build a legal organisation chart on their own before even understanding their problem.
So, what is the cheapest legal consultation in Barcelona?
There is no single answer.
There are free public services, lawyers who offer an initial assessment at no cost, and private consultations whose prices vary considerably depending on the professional, specialism, duration and content.
In the sample of publicly advertised prices reviewed for this article, we found private consultations ranging from €49.90 to €209. That does not mean a consultation is better because it is more expensive or worse because it is cheaper: these services have different durations, specialisms and conditions.
That is why Claramente Legal does not claim that €49.90 is “the cheapest price in Barcelona”. What we can explain clearly is what we offer for that price:
Claramente Legal consultation: Up to 45 minutes of personalised advice with Ouissal Chairi, a registered lawyer, for €49.90, with no obligation to instruct another service afterwards.
And we think that distinction matters.
